Rajasthan is the magnificent land of numerous kingdoms, majestic forts and palaces, diverse cultures, varied It stands on its tracks; a gleaming sealed carriage, every bit is royal. The air-conditioning works silently, creating a space where only the excitement of the history of the Rajput kingdoms permeates through, clearly captured in a contemporary mode. In all, there are fourteen saloons, each equipped with four twin-bedded chambers, with attached baths that have running hot and cold water and showers. The modern conveniences have been thoughtfully provided, sofas to sink into, strategically placed lights to read by, wonderfully appointed beds with comfortable furnishings,inbuilt wardrobes for the storage of one’s clothes and bags, and huge plain glass windows to watch the countryside roll past.
Outside the bedrooms, each coach also has a seating lounge where passengers can get together, just sit watch the cities as they glide past outside the windows, or enjoy a quiet cup of tea. An attached pantry with each saloon helps provide beverages and refreshments to the accompaniment of soothing piped music.
There is the comfortable bar cum lounge where you can relax over your favourite drink, burrow in a book or converse with fellow passengers. Attached to it are two restaurant cars, Maharaja and Maharani respectively, with opulently draped curtains, exquisitely crafted lights and table settings . Here accompanying chefs serve up a delicious choice of Indian, including Rajasthani, Continental and even Chinese cuisine that are a feast for the palate.
The train chugs out of Safdarjung Railway Station New Delhi on a week-long run through Rajasthan every Wednesday night, with a trip also inbuilt to Agra and the Taj Mahal. Turban-wearing attendants take over from the moment you arrive at the platform, assigning you your coupes and detailing all the facilities that are on board. The train moves by night and arrives each morning at a new destination where new experiences await you.

Delhi you will be treated like Maharaja & Maharani on welcome by garlanding, Tikka and turban with glass of wine. Day 2. Jaipur - The Pink Paradise:
On your first day you will be welcomed at the magnificent Pink City, Jaipur. The city with graceful architecture in a unique pink colour was established in the year 1727 by the then Maharaja, Sawai Jai Singh II. Jaipur is known as one of the well-planned cities of its time. The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is predominantly known for its musicians, artisans and craftsmen. Today, it is visited for its fine jewellery, varied textiles and sumptuous cuisine. In this diverse land of rich cultural heritage, you’ll be first treated to a visit at Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds. This was built for the royal ladies to watch the processions through the myriad windows of the palace. This five-storied palace was also used to store artefacts by the royal family. From Hawa Mahal, we proceed to the impressive palace perched on the rocky terrain of Amer, the earliest capital of erstwhile Jaipur state. Amber Fort was the seat of various Maharajas of Jaipur and has been adorned with mirror glass work, doors with parquet ivory work, and painted maps of various Hindu pilgrimages. The fort is dotted with innumerable monuments and beautiful temples. The Vijay Stambh, tower of victory was erected by Rana Kumbha to mark his triumph over the Sultan of Gujarat. Here, you will revisit history where Rani Padmini along with other women performed the heroic act of Jauhar rather than being caught by the enemy, they took a plunge in fire. Jag Niwas, the City Palace, one of the largest palaces in India, is an interesting blend of Rajput architecture and Mughal interiors that carve this fortress as a distinctive structure. Khajuraho was the capital of the Chandela Kings, now famous for its magnificent temples. The temples were built by Chandela dynasty between 950 A.D. and 1050 A.D., are example of Indo Aryan architecture dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Jain Tirthnkaras, the temple show case the art and architecture of medieval India. The Khajuraho temples have declared a world Heritage site. The Temples of Khajuraho are divided in to three geographical groups western, eastern and southern. The temples of Khajuraho are a confluence of spirituality and eroticism frozen in exquisitely embellished architecture. These temples are located in a quaint little village with a rich cultural heritage almost in the middle of nowhere in Madhya Pradesh in the heart of India. The amouous carvings are confined to the external walls as if to purge the earthly desires outside before entering the sanctum of spirituality. Varanasi is the oldest city of the world. Varanasi is more than 3000 years old and is famous as the city of temples. In Varanasi, there are temples at every few paces. Jyotirlinga Visvanatha Temple or Golden Temple, rebuilt in 1776, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Jnana Vapi well (meaning 'Well of Wisdom') is believed to have been dug by Lord Shiva himself. The Ganga Ghats (river front) are the most popular pilgrimage spot of Varanasi and are centers of music and learning. The holy city has been a symbol of spiritualism, philosophy and mysticism for thousands of years and has produced great saints and personalities like Gautama Buddha, Mahavira, Tulsi Das, Shankaracharaya, Ramanuja and Patanjali. Varanasi, or Banaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually unrevealed. Mark Twain, the English author and literature, who was enthralled by the legend and sanctity of Banaras, once wrote : "Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together" . Cabins
Out of the 21 plush coaches, there are 11 passenger cars and 2 presidential suites for accommodation in the luxurious Deccan Odyssey. The passenger cars have 4 coupes each and the presidential suites have two coupes each. Attached washrooms with running hot and cold water, intercom, channel music, CD/MP3 players, wall-to-wall carpeting and other such luxurious amenities are provided in the accommodation area of the train. Each passenger car has a lounge with a plasma TV installed for the entertainment.
Other than accommodation, Deccan Odyssey boasts of two cars for restaurants. There are also are cars for spa rejuvenation, sauna and gymnasium, a lounge-cum-bar car and a conference car which can be converted into a dance floor at night. And during the tour, if you want, you can get a makeover at the beauty parlor onboard. A personal attendant, 'khidmatgar' is also appointed in each cabin to look after the comfort of the guests. Separate cars are provided to staff, generator, luggage, pantry and for other such reasons.
Each coach is intricately designed to imitate the regal flair or particular era and time of the Deccan historical milieu, under the reign of different dynasties.
